happy birthday, baba!

May 10th, 2010

dear baba – happy birthday! i know this photo collage is not much, but it shows much better than i can ever say all the things i appreciate about you. i love your silliness, your humor, your wisdom, and your everlasting patience towards mama and me. as i look back on my life, i cannot recall a single moment when you have shown me anything but these sides of you. thank you for all that you do. happy, happy birthday with love! – mandy

jeanette + steven

May 9th, 2010

jeanette is the sweetest. after i first posted ian and amy’s pics on this blog, jeanette emailed me that she loved my photos and that i HAD to do her engagement and wedding pics…little did i know that they would come so soon after!

jeanette and steven met while working together at the NIH doing good things for the world like finding cures for malaria. because her work required her to often spend time abroad, jeanette and steven had to seize the time that they had together. it was funny because jeanette had already scheduled a shoot with me while she was planning to come back from london a week early to surprise steven…all the while steven was planning an engagement surprise for her! anyway, neither of the surprises worked out, but jeanette and steven were engaged nonetheless and i had the pleasure of hanging out with them on an absolutely beautiful day at the esplanade.

are there cherry blossoms in boston?? i have no idea what they are – but they are gorgeous!

then we made our way over to mit, and we managed to sweet talk ourselves back into the mccormick penthouse for breathtaking views of the boston skyline, haha.

for more pics, see the gallery!

you guys are the best. can’t wait to see you back in boston soon!

angela + kenny: the beginning

May 9th, 2010

angela and kenny, you guys must hold a special place in my heart because this is the third post on the two of you!

the story of angela and kenny began in the bcec garden. the story – as i was told – was that angela and kenny had both volunteered to work in the garden one summer. because kenny often drove angela home, they got to know each other better…and then, their love for each other blossomed (ha, ha). now that the bcec garden is in full bloom, we went back to document the beginning of their love story.

the beautiful islands of hawai’i

March 7th, 2010

over the mega-holiday that was president’s day, chinese new year, and valentine’s day, i took a short trip to hawaii. i should’ve known that the trip could’ve only been considered short had i left from california, not boston. hawaii is a lot farther away than i thought…dude, it’s practically halfway to japan! note to self: never fly cross-country, cross-pacific from hawaii, and attempt to come back to work after two red eyes in a row. it’s not pretty.

as curtis had eloquently said, this was a trip “10 years in the making.” indeed, it was, since my best college friends and i had been talking about visiting mike in his native state since freshmen year. the trip was an absolute BLAST and totally worth waiting 10 years for. a huge THANKS to mike and his family for their ohana hospitality. in between all the fun i had snorkeling with giant sea turtles, sea kayaking to remote islands, eating every variety of shave ice imaginable, playing blockus till the wee hours of 3am, i managed to squeeze in a *few* quick shots with my camera:

gearing up at snorkel bob’s

my dad had specifically requested that i bring him back a hot hula girl. so i got what i perceived to be a hot for dude for my mom and a hot hula girl for my dad. my dad was not pleased by my choice. =P

…so…when are we going back again? =)

back at the ‘tute

February 20th, 2010

at the end of january, i had the opportunity to assist shang with an engagement shoot, coincidentally, back at MIT. even though i only live a few blocks away from my alma mater, i haven’t really stepped foot on campus for more than 4 years, so it was quite weird to be walking through the infinite corridor, lobby 10 (is that what it’s called?), and the lecture halls i never want to remember again. however, it was such a beautiful day, and i am reminded of what brought me to boston in the first place, and for that, i am truly thankful. thanks shang for letting me join you on this shoot!
